I come from the manufacturing industry. Prior to FindMyContractor.com, I ran EZ ICE (ezicerinks.com), where we manufactured easy-to-assemble backyard ice hockey rinks for tens of thousands of families across the USA & Canada.

In order to achieve our goals of getting 1 million kids Off the Device & On the Ice ™ and enjoying the thrills of skating in their very own backyards, we have had to manufacture dozens of different plastic and metal components from which our hockey rinks are assembled. For each component that we designed, we built RFQs (Requests-for-Quotes) to send to hundreds of manufacturers across the U.S. and beyond.

An RFQ is a concise document — often as short as one page — that outlines all of the required specifications for the component that we wished to manufacture including quantities, sizes, weights, colors, tolerances, locations and more. If we send an RFQ to one hundred manufacturers, ten might respond with a quote indicating their interest. And we usually engage five or so in negotiations in order to choose which two or three manufacturers we will ultimately give our business.

The RFQ process also lays the groundwork for a legal contract that results in both parties happy with the result. As a result, after over a decade in business, we have strong relationships with nearly every supplier with whom we have ever engaged.
